Thursday's My Bloody Valentine show at the National was so epic. The National is definitely one of my favorite venues in Virginia, with it's lavish detail, sweeping balcony and slanted-so-everyone-can-see floors. The show was amazing and MBV played a set comprised of songs from Loveless and Isn't Anything with the delightful surprise of closing with You Made Me Realize Imagine the soothing warmth of a cat falling asleep on your chest. Now feel that velveteen blissful weight on your entire body, penetrating through your ears to rock you to the core. Delightful. DCist did a great write up that you should check out for more details.

After the show, Alleigh's new roomate Gena knew the sound guy, so we followed them back stage. We all chilled for a bit, talking and drinking beer when Debbie Googe came up to us and started a conversation. She was so sweet. We joked about Snow Pony, she giggled kindly and invited us to join her in the other room, where the rest of the band was. I wandered into the adjacent room with Thara and this adorable danish girl to discover a hot tub. Um, duh. We stripped down to our skivvies and jumped in, soon followed by Alleigh, Colm and others. Thankfully Gena reminded my drunken ass to take photos. You can see them on my flickr page.

Dude. I work around the corner from the Real World house. It's bound to happen that I'll have some significant run in with them. Does it have to be this way? At my fucking gym? I'm lifting weights, chatting with a friendly staffer when I realize that another staffer close to me is being filmed. GREAT. I move onto another machine and the whole crew comes my way. They are touring the Dupont Washington Sports Club and stopped to film right behind me as I am lifting weights. Does my 15 mins of fame have to be with sweat pouring down my back? Am I going to be able to take a shit without the real world kids popping in?

I went outside to check them mail today because True Blood is arriving in my netflix and I need horny vampire action. To my not-horny surprise, some dude was playing drums on the front of the church steps down the street from my apt. I was annoyed because a few months ago the choir decided I needed a round of gospel to go with my coffee at 8am on a Saturday morning. Yeah, the whole choir was preaching it outside for the world to h/f/ear. Well, I peeved about it on the facespace. Then I went out to check the mail agaim (obesessed?) and it was a whole band performing. I put on some clothes to join the mass of people in front of the church. Huzzzah, it was cool to see the power of music bring people together. Bare with my lazy hand that keeps shifting to the left for some reason.

Goodness, yes. Ida Maria opened for Glasvegas in DC on March 26th. I have been thinking about how good they were ever since. I would have ran out to purchase this wonderful slice of Norwegian pie if I didn't have to shell out all my $$ to the government. So, I've been listening to the album here. I djed Bored of Trade on Saturday for a bit. I really wish I could have stayed a bit longer because I wanted to shop but I had to run off to the WABA gala. Luckily Lindsay is determined to do more of these. It's not a craft show, it's a retail collective, according to Morgan Hungerford.
